Nevada Youth Empowerment Project (NYEP)
A local, 501©3 non-profit organization, was officially founded in September of 2007 to help disadvantaged adolescent girls leaving the dependency system, receiving its Public Charitable Status in February of 2008.
At the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project, young females, ages 17-21, are given a safe and serene place to live, provided skills training to move them toward independent living, and opportunities to complete their high school education or access higher education and vocational training. Specialized services for those with a mental disability or for pregnant young women are also available.
The majority of young women who come to the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project are looking for hope. They are tired, afraid and feeling as though life may never be different for them. Needing an alternative to foster care, living in the streets, or recently aged out of foster care, these young women are looking for a different way to live and are willing and open to change.
The Nevada Youth Empowerment Project empowers these young women to create a life worth living.
The mission of NYEP is “Enriching the lives of at-risk young adults, thereby protecting the community; through an integrated continuum of care, life skills training, behavior interventions, and societal reintegration.”
NYEP's mission is accomplished by making a positive difference in the lives of at-risk, female youth through quality residential and support services that promote dignity, integrity, and responsibility. NYEP was formed in 2007 to address the increasing need for services targeting youth aging out of the foster care system, including transitional foster care group homes for female teenagers. NYEP supportive housing is an alternative to transitional foster care group homes.
NYEP is committed to providing loving, caring, supportive housing for Northern Nevada’s older, female girls that have been removed from their homes due to various reasons, including abuse and/or neglect.
NYEP provides a supportive environment with the opportunity to develop appropriate skills and the encouragement to take appropriate risks in the process of becoming independent. The program is designed specifically for female youth who intend to transition from substitute living situations into the community to live independently.
The community is already showing great support for the project.

“The Nevada Youth Empowerment Project has targeted an underserved area of the population and I look forward to seeing the program provide these necessary services. There is a tremendous need in our community for this program.”
Assemblyman Bernie Anderson
“The Nevada Youth Empowerment Project certainly looks like it’s ready and able to help solve social problems on a large scale and act as change agents for young women at the crossroads of their lives. We commend you for seizing this opportunity that others have perhaps missed. We at ARISE encourage you to disseminate new approaches and advance solutions, that create social value by unearthing the hidden potential in each of the youth your organization comes in contact with.”
